Desperado is proud to host our artist in residence, Barbara Slater, this Friday, June 4th starting at 5:00 pm. Downtown Bend’s first Friday Art Walks have been on hold since the pandemic began… but now that Deschutes County has been lowered to ‘Low Risk’ downtown will be holding its first Art Walk of the Summer Season.
Come meet Barbara Slater and see her new work on display at the store. Her work has been a fixture at our store for years and we think you will love her newest exhibit.
Slater’s oil on canvas paintings have been showcased in Bend’s ‘Cascade Arts & Entertainment’ magazine as well as frequently appearing in the magazine ‘Ranch and Country’.
We say down and talked with Slater and she shared some insight into her work, “Somewhere in my mind I’m always thinking about or looking for a painting. Every painting that I start demands a new language, it feels unfamiliar at times as though this is the first one I have ever done,” reflects Slater. “It is in my blood and takes up a huge part of my life.” she says.
Slater’s work has touched our lives too. Barbara has painted portraits of some of our favorite past pets and has done commissioned work capturing our client’s favorite pets on canvas too.
Besides Desperado Boutique and several other art galleries in Central Oregon she was recently showcased in the Oil Painters of America show in Carmel, California.
Slater’s oil on canvas paintings will be on display and for sale at Desperado. Pictures in this blog post may not be what we currently have in our store so please stop in and see what we have. If you come by this for this Friday’s Art Walk you’ll also have the chance to meet this amazing artist and Desperado friend!
