Squash Blossom Necklace & Earrings
The squash blossom has developed slowly and has roots deep in Native American culture and history. The principle part of the necklace is the crescent-shaped “Naja” pendant, which the Southwestern Indians first saw as iron ornaments on the horse bridles of the Spanish Conquistadors in the late 1500s and early 1600s. The Navajo word for the “squash blossom” bead means “bead that spreads out”. While these necklaces were not used in ceremonies they depicted a person’s wealth. This sterling silver and turquoise set (necklace and earrings) is authentic Native American made.
