Desperado is excited to host our first ever event with one of our leading shoe lines- Dromedaris! Dromedaris International is a Swiss company of amazing high fashion comfort shoes handmade in Portugal. Please join us Friday & Saturday, December 14-15, for an exclusive engagement and chance to own a pair of these shoes & boots.
Shoe designers, Werner Wyrsch and Ana de Pina teamed up in 1992 to create a company that provides technical shoe manufacturing at the highest possible level of reliability on an international basis. For 15 years, Dromedaris operated as a sourcing company, proud to have served some of the best know brands, such as Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, Colombia Sports, L.A. Gear, Brasher, Chaco, Dansko, and many more.
In 2007, Dromedaris decided to launch its own brand. Named after a frigate ship that brought the first Europeans to South Africa in 1651. The Dromedaris team continues to bring their expertise in color, fashion and extraordinary engineering to this line of footwear. Making use of their experience, Ana and Werner developed what they call 4-D technology that ensures each shoe has anti- shock, lateral stability and arch support, a soft cushion foot-bed and metatarsal support.
Dromedaris has also made it its mission to use highly ecological materials and manufacturing process in their shoes to create a low carbon footprint by producing footwear that is made with eco-friendly components sourced, produced, and assembled within a 120 mile radius!

Amy Leistiko is a Pacific Northwest Native and resides in the small town of Bonneville, Washington. Living in the Columbia River Gorge has allowed Amy and her husband to live the adventurous lifestyle she grew up with. The hiking trails and breath taking views have inspired a lot of Amy’s work. A talented silversmith, Amy is self-taught and designs and creates all her own work. She has manifested a beautiful business that focuses on her customers and she hopes every person who wears her jewelry feels excited and special.
Each piece of handcrafted silver is intricately designed to highlight the sincerity of the stone. With the integrity of the stone in mind, Amy manipulates the silver with tanks of flammable gases to create her radiating designs. Amy says, “When a person is drawn toward a particular piece it speaks to the energy of that person.” She adds, “It’s more than jewelry or a statement piece; to me it’s about connecting to a piece that you want to wear everyday. They’re livable.”
Amy believes crystals and stones vibrate at a much higher rate than humans do. She says, “When around certain stones, a person’s vibrational rate is effected.” Amy says this is what causes the pleasant, peaceful reaction people experience when looking at stones; and why people are drawn to a particular stone. This is what Amy regards as her main inspiration when it comes to making jewelry. She sees the connection when someone is drawn to a certain piece.
Amy gets her stones from all over; always being sure to get the best there is. Like us, Amy supports local businesses and sellers that keep a small, old time feel. At Desperado Boutique Amy will be showcasing stones from one of the longest running turquoise mine fields.
Although most of her work involves rings, recently Amy has dipped into creating earrings. At her upcoming Trunk Show at Desperado Amy will be debuting some of her first earrings as well as pendants.
Silversmith, Amy Leistiko, will be joining us at Desperado for our exclusive
Johnny Was Event November 3-4
Stop by for her debut Trunk Show and see her amazingly unique jewelry, including rings, earrings, and pendants.
Brad and Sundie Ruppert are Iowa natives who share a love for arts and an eye for beauty in scraps. Brad and Sundie have lived an adventurous life starting in Iowa but dreamed of a quiet life in the countryside. But as destiny would have it, their zest for life and art lead them to a life on the road. This summer their nomadic life brings them to Bend and Desperado Boutique. Brad and Sundie will be displaying their unique artwork at Art in the High Desert August 24-26 and you can meet them here at the store for a reception on Friday evening August 24th.
We caught up with the Rupperts and they shared some of their life experiences and how those experiences influence the art they make today.
For 15 years the couple has made both 2D and 3D art. Their most recent art comes from the scraps of old, western felt-hats. The two create whimsical, lively pieces from thousands of thin felt scraps that Brad and Sundie say, “begs the viewer to fulfill their primal need to touch”. Individually hand-cutting and nailing each of the felt scraps make their art both original and unique.
Their intricate work includes a multiple step process of envisioning, drawing, cutting, salvaging and painting. Meticulously cutting and painting each layer allows for realistic features that express both the heart and soul that goes into each subject. Brad and Sundie talk about the meaning and importance of their work, “Our number one goal for the last 18 years has been to show people that if you see things for what they could be instead of just looking at things for what they ARE, the possibilities are endless”.
Like most artist, the two have struggled with making a living from their artwork. Although some days were harder than others; the two never lost their drive to want to create. As the two became well-known in the art community they began their life on the road; traveling to art festivals and showings. Their life on the road has allowed them to be inspired by many sights in the United States.
Their collections include: American Icons, Shorebirds, Feathered friends, Fantasyland and many more. The meticulous work they put in gives soul and life to what was once the fabric of the American West.
Desperado is proud to debut our artist in resident, Barbara Slater’s, newest florals this summer. Slater’s work has been a fixture at our store for years and we think you will love her latest exhibit.
We caught up with Barbara recently and she shared what inspires her work. “I love flowers, I love their shapes and colors so I decided to do them them a little edgy!” says Slater.
Slater’s works have been showcased in Bend’s “Cascade Arts & Entertainment” magazine as well as frequently appearing in the magazine “Ranch and Country”.
“Somewhere in my mind I’m always thinking about or looking for a painting. Every painting that I start demands a new language,
it feels unfamiliar at times as though this is the first one I have ever done,” reflects Slater. “It is in my blood and takes up a huge part of my life.” she says.
Slater’s work has touched our lives too. Barbara has painted portraits of some of our favorite past pets and has done commissioned work capturing our client’s favorite pets on canvas too.
Besides desperado boutique and several other art galleries in Central Oregon she was recently showcased in the Oil Painters of America show in Carmel, California.
Slater’s oil on canvas florals will be on display and for sale @desperado through September.

We landed in LA early on a Saturday morning with high hopes of hitting a few famed shopping areas on Los Angeles. “Research & Development”, as Joanne calls it. We ended up spending a good chunk of the day walking Abbot & Kinney Boulevard, which is the claimed “coolest few blocks of America”. Spring was in full effect inside all the cool LA shops, statement denim & slides team up to make for a perfect, plea for sunshine, ensemble. It’s pretty fun to people watch over some avocado toast and a Moscow Mule… fashion is at every turn in LA. It’s a vast difference from our casual little city in the heart of the Oregon high desert. Our shopping afternoon got us both really excited to shop for the store and to make summer and fall the best our clients have seen yet!
The LA Market is held in the fashion district of Downtown Los Angeles. An iconic area full of breathtaking Art Deco buildings & hipster cafes. We started off Sunday with lots of excitement, eager to see what fashion has in store for us. I feel pretty confident saying that the biggest trend for our up-coming seasons is positive 70’s glam. You’ll see lots of chartreuse, shades of green & pink, and yellow. With jaw-dropping outerwear leading the way, you’ll be more excited than ever to put a coat on and face the Fall & Winter weather of the high desert. Lines like Johnny Was and Dylan have really stepped up their game to brighten up a dark Winter wardrobe with unique embellishments & prints. There is also an abundance of positivity on the horizon in fashion. Statement tee’s & hoodies with the happiest of affirmations will be sure to be a necessary addition to your wardrobe. We went on a hat hunt & found the most perfect line for our store, Brooklyn Hat Co., they’re feminine & on trend with a fabulous low price point to boot!
We are really excited about some new lines that will be hitting the store starting in a few months. So stay patient, Summer will be here before you know it. Our fashion loving tanks were fully fueled this buying trip…anything goes in LA & we are totally okay with that.

It can be difficult to understand another person’s experience until you have walked in their shoes. That’s why survivors of domestic violence, and their loved ones created art designed to express what it’s like to be a survivor as part of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Campaign for Bend’s Saving Grace.
Throughout October desperado with shoes &… has teamed up with Saving Grace to present “In Their Shoes,” an art exhibit highlighting the experiences of domestic violence survivors and their loved ones. For this exhibit, survivors and their supporters decorated footwear to show what it is like to walk in their shoes.
“We hope by displaying this special art exhibit in a public place like our store window we’ll get the message out to anybody walking down the street that there is help out there for victims of domestic violence,” says Joanne Sunnarborg, owner of Desperado with Shoes &. “These shoes are not only works of art, they tell a story of survival and that’s a message we’re happy to help share.”
Saving Grace offers safety, hope, and healing to survivors of relationship abuse and sexual assault in Central Oregon through its emergency shelter, a 24-hour helpline, emergency transportation, safety planning, support groups, children’s advocacy, community education and more.
Learn more at www.saving-grace.org or get help by calling the 24-hour helpline at 541-389-7021.
This special art exhibit will be on display at shoes &… in the Old Mill District through the month of October.
